Family Farmhouse: Kitchen Reveal

This gorgeous modern family farmhouse is nestled back into a picturesque farm setting just north of Saint James. Privacy and nature are found in abundance here at the generational farm. Natural beauty surrounds the home with views of trees and crops in every direction. This energetic family of four have known the property for decades and saw the potential of the home. A couple years ago they decided it was time to start planning the updates that would reflect their personality and make this house their own!

Not knowing where to start on such an extensive project the homeowners reached out to me in early 2019. We started working on plans for a whole house renovation including converting the existing garage into a master suite, relocating and adding a custom Inspiring Interiors kitchen, adding a three-stall garage and mud room, raising the roof in the front of the house to add a foyer, powder bath and locker space to the front entry, opening the staircase, and finishing off the family room and den. Today the renovations are complete and the family is enjoying their newly renovated modern farmhouse! I’m so excited to share some of the behind-the-scenes highlights of this amazing transformation.

Before:

Diving head-first into a major renovation takes planning and research. I started working on floor plan designs and cabinetry layouts with the family in early 2019. The extensive renovation included moving walls, raising ceilings, adding on and reconfiguring the entire main floor.

Today I would like to share with you one of my favorite areas: the custom kitchen designed by yours truly! We completely opened up the main floor and moved the kitchen to a new location. We also incorporated much-needed storage solutions for this busy family!

The Kitchen Cabinetry:

Both homeowners were drawn to the look of multi-tonal kitchens, in which there are multiple colors incorporated into the cabinetry design scheme. We decided on a medium gray for the base cabinets, white wall cabinets and accented the space with a local favorite, natural oak. We used simple shaker doors to give the kitchen a classic feel and implemented upscale appliances, a pot-filler and marble backsplash for a luxurious affect. We also incorporated a brand new Cambria design, Clovelly and used a modern farmhouse natural oak X endcap for the island that provides a stunning focal point for the kitchen.

Island & Countertops:

This kitchen also boasts a beverage center that makes morning coffee and late afternoon happy hour a breeze! We completed this amazing space with floating oak shelves, shiplap backsplash, wine storage and a beverage cooler.

Beverage center:

This kitchen is loaded with organizational storage solutions including vertical dividers for cookie sheets and other tall items, a pop-up mixer stand to house a large freestanding mixer, oversized drawers for pots and pans, spice roll-outs and oversized drawer bases throughout.

Storage solutions:

Flooring:

We removed all the existing flooring and replaced it with natural white oak hardwoods throughout.  Lighter wood flooring is definitely trending lately after years of darker shades. Homeowners are realizing that lighter floors are easier to maintain, have less fading, show less dust and dirt and the distressing on this particular floor hides dings and scratches.
